At The Lorem, we believe that everyone has the ability to lead a contented and fulfilling life. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that mental and emotional well-being are integral to overall health, and that therapy can be a powerful tool for achieving this balance.
The Lorem is a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space providing counselling and psychotherapy services throughout Herts, Beds and Bucks to individual adults, couples, groups and young people.
Our counsellors and psychotherapists work using different approaches, combining elements of Person-Centred Therapy; which focuses on an individual’s self-worth and values and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); which focuses on thoughts, emotions, physical feelings and actions, teaching clients how each one can have an effect on the other. CBT is useful for dealing with a number of issues, including depression, anxiety and phobias, Transactional Analysis; which focuses on the theory that we each have three ego states: Parent, adult and child. By recognising ego-states, TA attempts to identify how we communicate, and how this can be changed. And Psychodynamic Therapy; which focuses on difficulties arising from early childhood that remain unresolved.
In a safe environment, we would look at your early childhood and help you to express feelings and thoughts that have not been released before, which have resulted in dysfunctional behavioural patterns and relationships.
Counselling provides a safe, confidential place to talk about the issues you are finding difficult to cope with. It can help you to explore your feelings and look at your patterns of behaviour. It allows you to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively and to help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Friends and family can offer you their support and advice but sometimes it's easier to share with someone who is not involved and can help you to see things from a different prospective.
Counselling is not about giving you advice; but to assist you in gaining a better understanding of what you are experiencing and feeling and to assist you in finding ways to live your life more positively. We can offer a safe and confidential place for you to share, explore and work through those difficulties which may be causing you distress.
We offer short or long term counselling, depending on your needs. Some people come for counselling and find they can resolve their issues within 6, 8 or 10 weeks and some find they need longer, once they begin to work through their difficulties. There is no limit, just a process to fit your needs.
Once you make contact we will have an initial call with you to establish your needs and arrange an assessment session.
For you to benefit from counselling it is important for you to feel safe and comfortable with your therapist. Therefore, we take pride in matching you with the right counsellor from the information you share at your assessment.
